This was one of my Christmas presents from the great white hunter son #2 and our DIL. When I make apple sauce for the freezer after we pick apples in the fall, I peel a lot of apples, so he thought this would make the process go faster. It peels, cores and slices the apple.
The Momma (DD) got 40 lbs of apples from the fresh fruit and vegetable co op that they belong to. We shared so I have a "few" apples to deal with. I made the great white hunter a apple pie and so it was the perfect time to try my peeler.
It works well, but I don't think it makes the process faster. You have to dig it out and get it going, then make sure you get the apple on there just right so that you get the entire core out. It didn't take longer though, and I really liked that the apple slices were all the same thickness and cooked more even. I will definitely use it when I need to peel several apples. Colin is going to love it, it is a "contraption" and he is into contraptions!

Norma, I've had the identical apple peeler for years and love it. I have weak wrists and use the peeler for one apple or many. You'll get the hang of it and love it. Those perfect slices make a beautiful "apple pizza".
My DH has offered to buy me one of those. I keep telling him....thank you, but I'm not sure I would like it. I don't like using a potato peeler either. I use a paring knife for pretty much everything. And I have my favorite paring knife that everyone in the house knows to leave alone!
You will learn to love this "contraption". I am on my second one...first one broke after quite a few years of use. They do take some practice - but you will get the hang of it. Having the slices the same thickness is really great too.
Oh! I have one in RED! I love it! So easy and quick to use. I thought about buying another one so that the kids can help me when I do all of my apples up! Had so many apples last year!

I was thinking you'd save tonnes of time, if you teach Colin to use it.
After I take it off the "contraption" I make one slice from stem to blossom. They make wonderful dried apple slices, and while they're in the dehydrator it scents the house fantastically!
Its a great device Norma, and offered for sale by many of the "back to the land" companies back in the hard times of the 1970's and 1980's. I believe that the company who makes(?)or made(?) them is the Green Mountain Company.
